Breville BJE510XL Multi-Speed Juicer Extractor Review

12 May 2024

I love fresh-squeezed juice. I don’t love having to cut up all the fruits and vegetables and wait for a juicer to juice all of the ingredients just to make one cup. I like things simple to use and fast. It’s not that I’m lazy; it’s just that when I’m thirsty and craving some delicious apple juice, I want it right now, not 15 minutes from now. Well, the Breville BJE510XL Ikon Juice Extractor solves this problem for me. Not only is it fast, but it’s also incredibly easy to use and has a large enough feed tube to handle whole fruits and vegetables with no cutting. Just throw in whole apples, no coring or slicing up unless they are some really, really big apples, and outcomes fresh apple juice not in 3 or 4 minutes, but in 5 seconds. That’s right, it’s not a typo. You will have an 8-ounce glass of fresh vitamin-filled juice in just 5 seconds. And not only is the BJE510XL incredible fast, but it is also very efficient as well. Here are some more of the awesome features of this machine.

You Can Control The Blade Speed To Optimize Juice Extraction

In addition to speed, the other major advantage of the Breville Ikon Juicer is that it has five speeds to choose from. The different speeds range from 6,500 revolutions per minute all the way up to 12,500 rpm. The slower speeds are best used on softer fruits and vegetables like tomatoes, and the faster speeds are for harder ingredients like pineapple. Breville provides a nice guide on which foods to use at which settings in their owner’s manual. I’ve included a few items from the list so that you can see the variety of different fruits and veggies you’ll be able to juice with this machine.

Breville BJE510XL Multi-Speed Juicer ReviewAt speed setting 5 you can juice pears, pineapple, carrots, celery, beats, and apples. Speed setting 4 is meant for broccoli, cabbage, and cucumbers. Speed setting 3 is best for oranges. At setting 2 you can juice apricots, peaches, pears, kiwi, and mangoes. And setting one will take care of your softest foods like tomatoes, raspberries, watermelon, and grapes.

One of the major benefits to being able to control the speed of your juicer is that each different food item needs a different speed in order to get the most juice out of it. You can’t expect to juice soft blueberries at a high speed because all you’ll get is a wet mushy pulp and very little juice. Nor can you juice hard beets at a slow setting because it will take forever and may even jam the machine. So efficiency of juicing, which means getting the most juice out of the ingredients, is the primary benefit of having multiple speeds.

The Breville BJE510XL Is A Centrifugal Juicer Built For Efficiency

The BJE510XL is a centrifugal juicer. This means it extracts juice from food by spinning it inside a chamber that houses a cutting disk and filter. The cutting disk chops up the food and the filter makes sure only juice comes out of one end, with the pulp getting shot out of the other side. The primary advantage of centrifugal juicers is that they are fast and easy to operate. The only real drawback to these types of machines is that they are not as efficient with leafy greens like lettuce, spinach, or wheatgrass.

If you want to juice a lot of leafy green veggies and you want sawdust dry pulp and the biggest juice yield possible, then you’ll want to look at a masticating single gear juicer or a triturating twin gear juicer. The disadvantage to these models is that they are slower than centrifugal models and they cost much more. So the bottom line is, if you want speed and efficiency with most fruits and vegetables, then the Breville Ikon centrifugal juicer is the machine you want.

High-Quality Parts Make the Machine

Breville BJE510XL ReviewThe Ikon is also made of only the highest quality parts. The cutting disc that does most of the juicing as it’s spun by the engine is made of durable stainless steel. Surrounding the cutting disk is an Italian made micro-mesh filter. The filter is so well designed that it’s able to extract 40% more minerals and vitamins from fruits and vegetables than other centrifugal juicers in this class. It can also extract up to 30% more juice, as shown in independent tests.

There are only 6 major components that make up the Breville Ikon, all of which fit together seamlessly. This makes assembly and disassembly for cleaning the unit very simple.

Another component that really stands out on this juicer is the smart engine. Breville has designed a powerful motor that has a built-in electronic smart chip that will control the power output of the engine based on the load. This means that if you load up the machine with some really hard carrots, then the engine will rev up and produce more power to keep the cutting blades spinning at the same speed. By not having the blades slow or vary their speed you will have a more consistent juice product and the machine will still be as fast as if you had filled it with tomatoes.

This Is A Sharp Looking Juicer

Breville BJE510XL Juicer Extractor ReviewThe Ikon juicer comes in a nice sleek, modern-looking black and metallic chrome design that will go great with any kitchen décor. The nice thing about these colors too is that they won’t stain as many white-colored juicers do. If you’ve ever owned a white model and are into juicing a lot of fresh leafy greens like spinach, then you know what I’m talking about. Many parts on these machines start to stain green over time and just don’t look very good at all.

Another feature that just looks fantastic on this machine is the backlit LCD control panel on the front. You can easily see the digital readout showing you the speed setting for the machine. It’s really nice being able to control the speed using the dial as well.

JuicerGallery.com Consumer Reviews Summary

Summary of the most helpful positive reviews:

Many owners talk about what a high-quality juicer the Breville BJE510XL is. They also talk about how efficiently it’s able to extract juice, leaving the pulp very dry. After juicing, many owners said that the Ikon is very easy to clean up and the included brush really helps with cleaning the filter component. One owner said she could clean her machine in just a few minutes. Several reviewers mention that the Breville is also much quieter than other juicers they have owned, which surprised them because of how powerful the engine is. Many owners also like the variable speed options and said it really improved juice yield for different fruits and vegetables.

Other positive reviews talked about how easy the machine is to setup and how quickly all of the pieces fit together. Everyone liked how quickly food was juiced and how you could just dump whole fruits and veggies into the large food chute and then sit back and let the machine do its work. They also liked how clean the whole process was. One owner talked about how juicers he had used in the past would always leak and that was not the case with the Breville Ikon.

Summary of the most helpful negative reviews:

There is not a lot of negativity about this machine. A few folks commented that the pulp was not as dry as they’ve seen with masticating juicers, especially with leafy greens. But they felt that for a centrifugal machine in this price range that the Ikon performed really well. To get sawdust dry pulp you need to spend a lot more for a high-end triturating model. Plus those machines tend to be much slower extracting juice.
