If you love a fresh squeezed, vitamin and nutrient-filled cup of OJ in the morning then nothing delivers like the Breville Citrus Press. If you’ve ever used a regular citrus juicer you have to know that you really need to press down hard on the top of the fruit to get the cone going and juicing. If you’ve ever used a nonelectric citrus juicer you know it’s even harder to push and turn to get some juice out. Well, the Breville 800CPXL solves all of your problems. There is no need to push down hard because of the handle, or what Breville calls the active arm system, does all of the work for you. You can even use just one finger to press down on the arm; it’s that simple.
This machine is incredibly efficient too. The soft-grip handle locks the fruit down while the cone spins and extracts the juice. The 800CPXL is designed with built-in sensors that can detect where the arm is located and active the spinning cone as the handle comes down onto the fruit. You can check efficiency when you look at the fruit you just juiced and find nothing but the skin left. All of the juice and pulp have been extracted. And the whole juicing process only takes about 4 seconds for each half of fruit!
Here is some more information about the wonderful Breville Citrus Press.
Deciding On The Type of Juicer You Need
Before you buy a juicer you need to decide what types of fruits and vegetables you plan on juicing. The Breville 800CPXL is a citrus press juicer. What that means is that it is designed solely for citrus fruits like lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruits, and tangerines. If that’s mainly what you are into juicing then look no further because the 800CPXL is the best citrus juicer on the market.
However, if you want to juice other things like vegetables, and a variety of different fruits like pineapple, apples, and mango, then you need to move up to a centrifugal juice extractor. And if you want to juice leafy greens like spinach and the tough but vitamin-filled wheatgrass, then you’ll need to step up to a masticating single gear juicer or a twin gear triturating juicer. I have a number of reviews of juicers in each of these categories on this site.
As you move up in categories, the juicers become more expensive, with twin gear juicers costing the most. So before you shell out over $900 for a top of the line twin gear wheatgrass juicer make sure you’re going to use it a lot. If you’re just looking for a delicious fresh cup of squeezed orange juice in the morning, then a citrus press juicer is all you need.
The Breville Citrus Press Is Constructed of Only The Highest Quality Parts
The whole 800CPXL is made of brushed stainless steel and high-grade zinc and aluminum so that it won’t rust and wear down. The die-cast Breville parts are molded from molten metals making them much stronger than the thin pressed metal you’ll find on most other machines. The design makes this a very sturdy juicer that not only looks fantastic in your kitchen but will also stand the test of time.
The juicing cone is another sturdy part, constructed of die-cast stainless steel. The cone is also acid-resistant, which is great because citrus fruit is high in acid content which can easily corrode lower quality juicers over time. It is designed with four multi-tiered fins positioned at the most optimal points on the cone to maximize effectiveness. Breville calls this design Quadra-Fin technology. With a cone-like this you can juice about any citrus fruit on it regardless of size. That means you can put a big old grapefruit on there followed by a tiny lime. Most other citrus juicers require you to change out cones depending on the size of the fruit.
Control How Much Pulp Is In Your Juice
Some people like to have their juice pulp free in a nice liquid form. Others, like me, enjoy some pulp in the final product. Well, you have that choice with the Breville Citrus Juicer. It comes with 2 stainless steel filters, one that is coarsely pored letting a lot of pulp through it and another that has a very finely pored tight screen that lets very little pulp through. This is a really nice feature that you don’t find on many juicers. Both screens are dishwasher safe and very easy to remove and clean.
The Good
- Cord storage – You can neatly store the cord under the machine. It wraps around and snaps into place.
- Extremely quiet – You can barely hear this juicer run.
- Drip spout – You can close this spout after you finish juicing so that any remaining juice in the machine will not drip out onto your counter. Good thinking by Breville there, because juicing can get pretty messy.
- Very easy to clean – All parts are dishwasher safe. The spinning cone also ejects with a simply touch of a button so that you can clean it quickly and easily. You can even take the whole pulp collector out as one piece and set it in the dishwasher.
- Nice safety features – The cone will not start rotating until the arm is lowered and securely in place. Also, the engine is fitted with thermal overload protection sensors to prevent damage from excessive heat. It the machine heats up too much for the engine to handle, then it will shut down. You should be able to start the machine again in about an hour after it has cooled and the sensors have reset.
- Dust cover – The Citrus Press comes with a nice dust cover that you can use when storing it. The cover fits over the spinning cone and other internal components.
The Bad
- Just a 1-year warranty – I’d like to see at least a 2-year warranty for a citrus juicer in this price range.
