Choosing the Right Juicer
When you pick a juicer you need to pick one based on your lifestyle and how you plan on juicing. If you just want some fresh OJ in the morning, then all you’re going to need is a citrus juicer. If you want to juice all sorts of different fruits and vegetables, from soft fruits, likes peaches to hard vegetables like carrots, then you need a centrifugal juice extractor like the Breville 800JEXL. The only drawback to this type of juicer is that it cannot handle wheatgrass very well. If you plan on juicing wheatgrass, which is very healthy, but very tough to juice, then you need a specialized masticating or triturating juicer. These types of juicers tend to be expensive though. Centrifugal juicer extractors offer a lot of efficiency and variety in juicing for a very reasonable price.
It’s All About The Blade and Engine
The two most important components of a centrifugal juicer are the engine and the cutting blades that it powers. The Breville Juice Fountain Elite has a patented steel cutting disk that has 115 tiny knives embedded into the design. It is able to pulp and grind all types of fruits and vegetables into tiny little particles. You can hear the machine grinding away at the ingredients as you drop them down the chute. The powerful engine is 1 1/3 horsepower and is able to rotate the cutting blades at up to 13,000 rpm. This clocks in about 3 times faster than most other centrifugal blenders on the market. Because the ingredients are spun so fast they are pressed up against the micro-mesh filter at g-force like pressure. This pressure, in turn, squeezes out the juice leaving nothing but dry pulp behind. You also have the option to use a lower spin speed of 6,500 rpm. This speed is best for softer fruits like watermelon, and leafy green vegetables like spinach. The manual that comes with the Juice Fountain lists which fruits and vegetables are best to juice at high or low speeds.
The engine is also designed with an electronic smart chip that is able to regulate the amount of power that is applied to the blades based on the amount and toughness of the ingredients. So if you’ve loaded up your machine with several carrots, the engine will generate more power to keep the blades spinning at the same speed as if you were juicing tomatoes. This way the machine doesn’t slow down and keeps the juice output consistent.
A Mammoth Feed Tube Makes Preparation Simple
Simple preparation is probably not the right word here. I should probably say no preparation. With a 3 inch wide patented stainless steel feed tube all you really need to do is drop the fruits and vegetables down the chute and let the juicer do its work. As you can see, many ingredients don’t even need to have the shell or skin cut off of them, like pineapple, which has a very tough hide. To aid in the juicing even more, the chute is positioned directly over top of the stainless steel cutting disk.
You also get a nice big plunger to push the food down into the food tube. It’s lightweight and easy to handle and more importantly, it fills up the entire feed tube so that all of the food is pushed down into the machine.
Juicing Really Can’t Be Any Easier With Such Efficient Design
The high level of efficiency of the Juice Fountain is really amazing. It is designed with over 40,000 filtering pores in its stainless steel micro-mesh filter basket that help to squeeze every last drop of juice out of the food you put into it. The Breville 800JEXL has been shown to produce up to 30% more juice than most standard centrifugal juicers. Just check out how dry the pulp is that comes out of the machine.
Adding to the ease of use and efficiency of this machine is its ability to continuously juice and eject pulp. Just keep feeding fruits and vegetables into the chute and the machine continues to eject pulp and squeeze out the juice. There is no need to stop and clean out a pulp container. The only time you need to stop is when the extra-large 3.2-quart pulp container is full, which takes a lot of pulp from lots of fruits and veggies.
When you are juicing you can put the juice jug lid on the container where the juice is squeezed into, while the machine is juicing. This prevents any splatter and spills that could occur when the machine is operating. You can also place the lid on the container when it’s full of juice and store it in the refrigerator.
The juice jug even comes with an anti-foam top. All centrifugal juicers produce some foam or froth when they make juice. I personally don’t want to drink a lot of foam. The juice jug that comes with the Breville has a nice top that catches the foam so that when you pour out the end product you only get fresh juice.

This machine is stainless steel and will not only look good in your kitchen but it will also stand the test of time. The Juice Fountain’s metal base is made using die-cast construction which increases durability and performance. It also looks pretty darn good. All internal components are made of titanium and stainless steel for long-lasting performance, and they are dishwasher safe. Also the Breville has been designed to prevent food from getting trapped down in crevices so that clean-up is even easier.
The Good
- 2 speeds – You can choose from a 6,500 rpm speed for softer foods and 13,000 rpm’s for harder ingredients.
- Locking safety measures – The Juice Fountain has a nice protective metal bar that locks all of the parts in place before you start juicing. Without this bar in place and all parts fitted properly, the machine will not start. This nice safety feature helps to prevent damage to the machine. There is also an overload protection button that will stop the engine and keep it from overheating when you load up the machine with too much food.
- Dishwasher safe (top rack) parts – The large pulp container, juicer cover, 34-ounce juice jug, and stainless steel micro-mesh filter basket can easily be cleaned in the dishwasher.
- Transparent juice jug – You can see how much juice is pouring into the container. It also has to measure lines on the side so you can measure exactly how much juice you are getting.
- Wrap-around cord – The power cord stores nicely under the base of the machine and clips into a secure position for easy storage.
The Bad
- Loud – At the higher speed setting the Breville is pretty loud, about like many high powered blenders.
- Not designed to juice wheatgrass – You can try wheatgrass if you want, however, the juice yield is not as great as you would get with a masticating wheatgrass juicer.
- No pulp regulator control – Some juicers will let you control how much pulp comes out at the end into the juice. Some people like a lot of pulp, others like a nice clear liquid. It’s nice to have some control over this.
- Only a 1-year warranty – I’d like to see a longer warranty for a product in this price range. Although in the reviews I’ve read, there are not a lot of reports of breakage even from long term users.
