Avoid These Mistakes when Making Green Smoothies

You could be trapped in making simple and silly mistakes while starting on a green diet. To err is human, but to learn and move on is equally wise as a smooth transition. Run through this list and ask (and admit) yourself if you have made these mistakes while making green smoothies. Maybe it will open your eyes to a whole new method to enjoy the mid-morning break or the next time you indulge in this healthy moment.

Are you drinking green smoothies for weight loss?

If bagel and burgers are off your mind and the blender has replaced the microwave oven in the kitchen expecting that green smoothies will make those pounds fall off like dominos…then you are in serious trouble. The weighing scales will not make the difference because you are doing it all wrong.

green smoothies

1. The green smoothies you have been drinking have only little fiber. This is a common mistake. Fiber is essential and helps you knock off the extra pounds. If you add kale (more fiber than spinach too), berries and certain fruits like avocadoes or kiwi, or even chia seeds then you will increase your fiber intake.

2. Do you add too much of fruits to make the drink more delicious? This is another grave error. The fiber is there but so are the calories too. Are you blending high fiber and calorie fruits? Cut it down. Fruits contain a lot of sugar which will not add to your aim.

4. Some people tend to add sweeteners to their green smoothies. How can you ever get to the ideal weight if you do this? Stop it. No more honey or even maple syrup should be added. Instead, find some veggie combination that your tongue will accept at the beginning and experiment with the ingredients one by one after you get used to the taste.

Other mistakes that beginners make when preparing green smoothies

Green smoothies need some investment. If you need to go on a diet it all begins at home. So invest in a good juicer or a blender. It should be good as it will be used every single day. An ideal juicing machine will bring in the right texture to the smoothie. The masticating juicers are better in comparison to the centrifugal machines. The later will also use the pulp in the smoothie. So the fiber and the liquid combination blends well eventually.

All of us like a good bargain…some like it even when they are making juices! So when they go shopping for groceries they will try to choose the bargain produce. The attitude is that quite a lot of pulp will be thrown away. So why waste money? When you shell out money for better and fresh produce of veggies and fruits, the results will obviously be better. Any of the green smoothies made from quality products from the farmer’s market will be more beneficial. Nutrients need to be good. When the plants are given rich soil and water the produce is better. Hence the end product will also be more delicious. Sometimes you need to think of the right flavor to enjoy.

When we speak of flavor for the green smoothies it is vital to blend only those veggies or fruits that complement each other. In an attempt to make a blend, some people keep adding stuff and find that there is no single flavor or taste that will tickle the tongue. It confuses and the diet plan is not motivating enough. When we go out we are attracted to the eye-pleasing colors and textures. So when you are making your green smoothies at home do the same. Make it attractive enough to sip it throughout the day. Use your creative juices to make the best of this lovely diet. After all, you will benefit from it.

Let’s give you a quick sample smoothie recipe to make

Take one green apple. Chop it roughly. Add to this 1-2 kale leaves and some mint leaves. One bunch of parsley and chopped ginger can be added next to this. One lemon for the tangy taste can be used. Don’t use any other sweeteners. Mix it all and make a fine blend. The bitterness of kale goes well with the lemon taste. Even if you do not like kale use it sparingly. Use your common sense to make the perfect green smoothie blend.

Don’t make your smoothie into a dessert

At times the ice-cold varieties score. It all depends on the season. Use seasonal fruits and veggies. Do not expect to get unseasonal produce. You may get it in the frozen foods section but prefer the fresher ones. When you put in ice, do not overdo it. This is not a cocktail on the rocks. The green smoothies will become watery and tasteless. The creamy taste is best when it is blended and poured into the glass and consumed immediately. It is not a good idea to have a dessert after the drink. Your body needs some time to digest your green smoothie and absorb the nutrients. Eating a second meal right after your smoothie will disturb this process and can even lead to digestion issues.

Do you feel bloated?

A few complains of gas bloating have surfaced from green smoothie dieters. Why does this happen? Those who have medical conditions may face such problems. If you have been adding too much fruit it will result in gassing. The body gets a shock with this new regime. Tone down on the fruits in the recipe. Never overload the fruits or veggies. Keep your green smoothie simple with only a few complementary ingredients. Adding flax seeds to your green smoothies may also help.

Acme 6001 Juicerator Juicer Review – 30% More Juice To Enjoy

I always like to get a couple of uses out of my kitchen appliances. I don’t want to have to buy one juicer for citrus fruits, one juicer for wheatgrass, and one for everything else. If I can get an all-in-one product or even a two-in-one, then I feel like I’m ahead of the game. That’s one of the things that caught my attention about the Acme 6001 Juicerator Juicer. In addition to being a fast and highly efficient centrifugal juicer, the Acme 6001 also has a really cool citrus juicing attachment that turns it into an awesome citrus juicer that you can use to juice oranges and grapefruits. It doesn’t come with the attachment; you have to buy it separately, but it’s affordably priced under $60. That’s a lot less than you would have to pay for a new, separate top-quality electric citrus juicer.

Acme 6001 Juicerator

In addition to the citrus fruit juicing attachment, I also like the juice extraction capability of the Acme Juicerator. It is able to extract 30% more juice than other centrifugal juicers in its class because it doesn’t automatically eject the pulp. Instead the pulp stays in the filter basket and even more, juice will come out of it as the filter spins. As you add more fruits and vegetables to the machine the pulp in the filter also serves as an additional strainer squeezing out even more juice from the new ingredients.

Here are some more things that you can expect from the awesome Acme Juicer.

The Health Benefits of Juicing With The Acme 6001

Bring yourself back to the peak of health with the Acme 6001 Juicerator Juicer. Think of your body as a car that you need to make sure runs at an optimal level of performance. If that is the case, then it is important that it is powered by the most premium fuel available – fruits and vegetables. Drinking fresh juice is one way that you can make sure that you and your family get the recommended daily intake of fruits and vegetables each day. Power your body with juice that is just bursting with nutrients and take your health to the next level.

The Juicerator Squeezes Out 30% More Juice

Because the Acme 6001 Juicerator is powered by a 3,600 RPM motor with 1/4 horsepower, it pushes fruits and vegetables through its inner basket in no time at all. The Acme 6001 is described as a non-ejection type juicer, mainly because you have to take the pulp out manually. It does not automatically eject all the pulp, which leaves the fiber in the spinning bowl, giving it more time for juice extraction. This is why the Acme 6001 Juicerator can claim that it gives you 30% more juice.

After you’re done juicing if you plan on baking bread or making soups and salads, you can also use the leftover pulp from the juicer to flavour your meal. It’s very dry and works well as an ingredient in a variety of different dishes.

The Fast and Efficient Acme 6001 Juicer Saves You Time

If you want a juicer that keeps you on time for work and squeezes out the juice as fast as possible, then this is the juicer for you. Unlike masticating juicers that take longer to operate because they chew the ingredients up, centrifugal juicers just zip through everything fast.

The nice thing about the Acme 6001 is that the pulp won’t need to be emptied as much as with other non-pulp ejection style juicers. With many other juicers, you have to constantly remove the pulp as it builds up, which really slows the juicing process. The design of the Acme lets you juice around 8 cups of juice (depending on the ingredient and how much juice it contains) before you need to clean the filter. Cleaning the filter is also very quick and easy. You can reach your hand in and pull out the pulp or take the filter and dump it.

On average, you can be done with juicing in just a little over 15 minutes. This includes chopping up your ingredients before you place them inside the feed chute. Cleaning adds on another couple of minutes but is also very fast and easy. All of the stainless steel parts are dishwasher safe and the plastic parts should be placed on the top rack of the dishwasher.

Compact, Well-Balanced and Durable

If you are not a hardcore juicer, then you obviously do not always want the Acme 6001 lying around your countertop. Because it only measures 21 x 11 x 13 inches and weighs only 15 pounds, it is portable enough to move around while sturdy enough that it does not shake around on your kitchen countertop when you are running it. In fact, the Acme Juicerator is made using a Gyro Base, which balances the unit and gives it grip so it does not fall off from the countertop or table accidentally. It also operates using a vibration-free 550-watt induction motor.

Because it is made from commercial-quality steel and polycarbonate housing, the Acme 6001 Juicer has the reputation of being robust and durable compared to other models within the same price range. It also has some dishwasher-friendly parts like its cover and stainless steel bowl, making clean-up a lot easier and more bearable.

Acme boasts of a 1-year limited appliance warranty and a 5-year limited motor warranty. You can read more about the care and use of this juicer in the Acme 6001 Juicerator Juicer Owner’s Manual. Please note that this is the manual for the Waring Pro Professional Juice Extractor which is the same machine.

What Other Users Say About the Acme 6001 Juicerator

Most people find that the Acme Juice Extractor is a great appliance to have in their kitchen, mainly because it makes juicing easy and fun. Most users find that its defining feature would have to be the fact that it does not have a pulp ejection system, which means that it gives the user 30% more juice.

People also love how they do not ever need to lubricate or oil the Acme, making the juicer as maintenance-free as possible. Unfortunately, when it comes to cleaning, some users say that is not as easy to clean as advertised. While the spring clutch, cover, plunger, bowl, and cutter blade are extremely easy to clean, the strainer basket is another story. Fruit and vegetable fiber are hard to scrub out, making the optional paper filters very necessary – especially if you intend to use this on a daily basis. It makes clean-up faster, easier, and less messy.

Another point that users talk about is that it takes a while for the blade assembly to stop running even after the engine has been turned off. The motor in the unit stops however the blades and filter keep spinning until they naturally stop on their own. Because this is not specified in the manual as typical behavior, many people actually think that their unit is defective. However, as time goes by, most people eventually get used to these vibrations, and just shrug it off.

Some people compare the noise that the Acme Juicerator makes as something that can wake up the dead. One user, on the other hand, likens it to a calming hum that makes her feel that all the juice is being extracted from her fruits and vegetables. You can lessen the sound that the juicer makes by doing two things: (1) checking to see if the lid is clamped on properly and (2) make sure that the load that you put in the juicer is balanced.

The Good

  • Acme Juicer citrus attachment: This is a fantastic little attachment that effectively turns your Acme centrifugal juicer into a highly efficient citrus juicer. You’ll be able to easily juice oranges, grapefruits, limes, and other citrus fruits.
  • Disposable filters: You also have the option to use disposable filters to make cleaning the pulp out of the machine easier. These work best when you’re juicing soft fruits and vegetables and not making a lot of juice at once. You simply place them in the filter before juicing.
  • Safety features: The Acme 6001 has a free-floating blade that will stop spinning if you drop something really hard like a knife or spoon down in the machine. This prevents engine and blade damage.

The Bad

  • Loud: The Juicerator is a powerful machine with a strong engine so it’s not the quietest on the market. Still, it’s no louder than most blenders with a quarter horsepower engine.
  • Hard to clean the strainer basket: You’re better off buying the paper filters and using them in the basket. When you’re done juicing, just pull out the filter along with all the pulp, leaving the strainer clean as a whistle.

Best Place To Shop

I found the Acme 6001 for a great price on Amazon.com. They also offer a package deal over there that is really good. You can get the Acme juicer, replacement filter liners, and the Acme Citrus Attachment all together for a very affordable price. If you love fresh orange juice in the morning and plan on doing any citrus juicing I highly recommend the Citrus Juicing Attachment. Where to Read More Reviews

You’ll find a lot of really positive reviews for the Acme 6001 along with the Waring Pro Juicer, which is the same product. There were over 15 reviews on Amazon.com when I checked and other owners gave this model a 4.1 out of 5 stars rating. That’s great for a juicer. In Conclusion

If you love juicing and you plan to use it every day then consider getting yourself the Acme 6001 Juicerator Juicer. Not only will it squeeze out 30% more juice than other models in its class, but it is also a timesaver. You will enjoy getting your morning drink using the Acme 6001 Juicerator Juicer, a juicer that is easy to clean and easy to put away.

More About Acme and Waring

Acme was acquired by Waring in 1984, so the Acme 6001 is also known as the Waring Pro Professional Juice Extractor. Acme had been around for a long time when Waring bought them and had been very popular over the years, so Waring wanted to keep the same name on the juicers.

7 Leafy Veggies to Make Tasty Green Juices

Homemade green juices are an excellent way to keep the body healthy for adults and children. We offer a list of seven leafy veggies to make green juices more palatable.

Opt for organic veggies

For long, we have been served vegetables with a variety of pesticide in it. As we list some healthy greens please note that they are often treated with chemicals. Hence always strive for organic produce to get maximum benefits of your green juices.

Our list of favourite leafy greens:

  1. Green JuicesCucumbers
  2. Spinach
  3. Kale
  4. Lettuce
  5. Collards
  6. Mint
  7. Celery

Note: If you are trying out green juices for the first time then it may not appeal to you initially. When you are making green juices in isolation or with combination with fruits you may add a little lemon juice to keep the biter taste away. It is particularly good for kids otherwise they may not endure this beverage for more than a day. For children you may opt for simple celery, fennel and cucumber juice with an addition of a dash of lime juice.

Ways to keep green juices interesting

Even adults need variation from time to time. Therefore, you can add other green veggies to the above list in your juicer. What can you include to make your juice more interesting? Try parsley, watercress, green lettuce leaves, cilantro or escarole. Some people are not able to tolerate cilantro in their green juices so stick with a small quantity at the beginning. There are no side effects but it is good to be careful. Any juicing plan that is forced will be abandoned and will not show any health benefits.

Another way to make the green juices more palatable for long term is the careful use of herbs. A few herbs can prove to be a challenge when it comes to taste but they are highly beneficial. They never backfire any dieting schedule. Greens like kale, collards mustard greens and even dandelion greens can pose a threat to the tongue’s taste buds. Adding lime juice makes it smoother. Of course, you can use them in lesser amounts till you can tolerate them. They have more health benefits in the long run.

How to make juicing even more delicious?

Every morning, you may not like to add lime or lemon juice to the glass of green juices you consume. You will need some more variety to keep the diet going and providing strength. Add cranberries and fresh ginger to your juice. When you add a little bit of cranberries to it, the antioxidants released are greater then when broccoli is added. Moreover, begin the day fitter as you experiment with the green juices.

When to consume the green juice?

Ideally, when you have made it, put it in the glass and have it right away. Don’t make for the entire day and refrigerate it. If you put it away then it needs to be stored at the right temperature. But having it fresh is more beneficial. Green juices are highly perishable in nature. It is best that each time you need, use the juicer and take your glassful. While mornings are the best time to consume, you can use several servings of your green juice throughout the day.

Health benefits associated with green juices

As long as one is getting the health benefits, the green juices are an excellent way to weight loss. When you have green juices at the right time then benefits are apparent in the energy you gain. The immune system gets better with it. How does it happen? As the combination of veggies with specific fruits are blended together into a cocktail, it offers phytochemicals, antioxidants, vitamins and essential minerals. One single serving offers so much. The pulp contains fiber. You can add some fiber to the juice to support your digestive system. Once glassful will energize the blood sugar levels.

Remember, when you add fruits to your green juices, you get extra calories. You need to spread the intake of this diet throughout the day to get the benefits. The body uses up the energy as you work, hence it is essential to keep the plan going through the day. Otherwise, you may experience high blood sugar levels. Veggies that boost immunity include kale, broccoli, and spinach. Bok Choy or chinese cabbage provides an outer layer of protection to the cells.

So try out some green juice today to boost your energy and overall health!

Why Do People Stop Juicing After a Few Weeks?

Majority of people stop juicing only after a few weeks because they have bought a wrong juicer…

The frustration of an incorrectly selected juicer is much stronger than having short-term friends. It is especially annoying if you stop using your juicer only because you find it difficult to take the juicer out and clean again after use.

Things which appear simple and trivial when shopping will determine whether you will make juicing a part of your daily routine or not. And the power of juices can only be discovered if you drink them regularly and over a long period of time.

If this has caught your attention it is likely that you want to buy a juicer but does not know yet which is the best for you. You might have read one or more books on the health effect of fruit and vegetable juice or you might have been recommended one.

Now, you are probably very enthusiastic and want to include this practice in your life. This excitement is great and will help you a lot in the beginning. Freshly squeezed juices are a very good way how you can significantly improve your own quality of life and energy levels.

However, as with many other things in life, it will only work if you practice the juicing long enough and regularly.

Unfortunately, this is precisely the crucial point where most newcomers fail. You have got a juicer and then started with juicing. The first few weeks everything works wonderfully because there is always something new that you want to try.

However, the initial enthusiasm is suppressed after a while and people are often confronted with various difficulties. The juicer is not so easy to clean and some fruits do not taste as good. The juice is often frothy and turns brown very quickly. With fibrous vegetables, the device often fails and blocks which in turn means a lengthy disassembly and cleaning. Finally, a technical problem occurs and the seller is not as keen to help you as it was the case with the purchase.

When such issues accumulate it is not surprising that the juicer is hardly taken out of the cupboard and that your own thoughts of the “tedious process” prevent you from preparing a healthy juice.

Tips on Juicing – How to Use Your Juicer to Get the Best Tasting Juice

I just love fresh juice. Apple juice, orange juice, grapefruit juice, even carrot, tomato, and spinach juice. Sometimes I like to combine different ingredients and make something original. Sometimes my concoctions are delicious, other times, well, let’s just say the dog really likes to drink them. With so many different fruits and vegetables in my kitchen, it’s good to know how to properly prepare them for juicing. Trust me; properly prepared ingredients can make the difference between having a glass of fresh, delicious juice chock full of nutrients, vitamins, and enzymes for you to drink, or having a mix that goes straight to the dog’s bowl.

How to Use Your Juicer

It’s also very important to know how to use your juicer, so I provide some basic tips below. It’s also helpful to have a few juicing tips and techniques at your fingertips to ensure that you get the most out of your juicer in the most efficient way. And if you’ve ever wondered what to do with the pulp leftover in your juicer, I have a few suggestions about that as well.

Buying and Storing Fruits and Vegetables

It’s important to always use fresh fruits and vegetables for juicing, preferably items that you purchased that day or at most a day or two before. Now I know that’s it a pain to have to go to the store every day to buy produce, so if you only like to make a couple of trips a week, then try to get hardier fruits and vegetables. Many of these can be stored at room temperature. Some of the more delicate items like berries, leafy greens, and tomatoes, will need to be stored in the refrigerator.

To help prolong storage life you should wash all of your produce before storing it. This is why you see most grocery stores washing and wetting down their produce throughout the day. It really helps to keep it fresh.

Also, be sure to wash all of your fruits and vegetables before you juice. This is a health issue because there may be pesticides and other chemicals on the produce that will easily wash off. Apples are a prime example.

Preparing Your Fruits and Vegetables

There are many fruits and vegetables out there with skin that you cannot eat. The skin of certain fruits is even mildly poisonous. You always want to peal hard skin or shells before juicing any produce unless you are using a citrus juicer. With a citrus juicer, all you have to do is cut the fruit, like an orange, in half and stick it onto the top of the reamer. Then you push down, the reamer turns and the fruit gets juiced.

If you are using a masticating juicer or all-purpose juice extractor, then you’ll need to remove the skin from fruits like pineapple, guava, melons, or mango. You will also need to remove any hard seeds, pits, or stones from fruits like peaches, nectarines, mangoes, plums, and cherries.

Helpful Tip #1
Try to buy fruits and vegetables when they are in season. This will save you some money, and the produce will be fresher and more vitamin-packed.

Helpful Tip #2
For the freshest, best tasting orange juice, refrigerate your oranges before you juice them.

Juicing Techniques

How you juice different fruits and vegetables will vary based on the type of juicer you are using. There are three major types of juicers, citrus juicers, multi-use centrifugal juice extractors, and masticating and triturating wheatgrass juicers. Your owner’s manual should have the best techniques that are specific to the type of juicer that you own. Here are some techniques that apply to most centrifugal juicers and wheatgrass juicers.

  1. If you are juicing different ingredients and they all have a variety of textures, then you want to start with the softer ingredients first. Run these through your machine on the low-speed setting first, and then move to a higher speed for the tougher ingredients.
  2. Put small amounts of produce into the machine at a time instead of trying to shove in large amounts.
  3. If you juicing multiple items at once let most of the juice get extracted from one item before adding another.
  4. When juicing sprouts, herbs, or leafy green vegetables like spinach you’ll need to bundle them up. This keeps them compact and your juicer is better able to pull the juice out of them. The other option is to juice them in the middle of a group of different ingredients, again so they are bunched up. A slow-speed juicer works best for the juice extraction in this case.
  5. If you are following a juicing recipe, don’t worry if you don’t come out with the exact amount of juice that the recipe calls for based on the number of fruits and vegetables used. All vegetables and fruits will yield a different amount of juice. Juicing one set of four grapefruit will result in a different amount of juice than another 4 grapefruits. The juice recipe will taste just as good even if the amount of one type of juice is slightly off.

Helpful Hint #3
Soft produce juices more easily if it has been refrigerated.

Using Your Juicer

Proper use of a juicer will vary based on the make and model, and again your owner’s manual will be able to provide you with all of the detail you’ll need. However, here are a few tips that will apply to any juicer.

  1. Don’t ever put the juicer’s cord, plug, or motor base into water or any other liquid as this can cause electric shock.
  2. Because of all the sharp moving parts, you should not allow children to operate your juicer.
  3. Always make sure you turn off the machine and unplug it when you’re not using it, cleaning it, or taking it apart.
  4. Don’t stick your fingers or any body part near any of the moving parts, especially the feed shut and blades.
  5. Many juicers, especially centrifugal models, will come with a food pusher. If that is the case with your machine, always use the pusher and not your hand to feed in the ingredients.
  6. Always make sure you have the pulp container in place to catch the pulp whenever you are juicing.
  7. If you ever need to unclog your juicer for any reason, make sure you use a food pusher. If that doesn’t work, then unplug the machine and disassemble the juicer to remove any clogged food.
  8. Always watch your juicer while it’s in use. Never leave it unattended.
  9. If any part of the juicer is damaged, including the cord or plug, do not try to use it.
  10. Always use your juicer on a dry, flat surface.
  11. When juicing make sure you keep your hair, clothing, jewelry, and any kitchen utensils like spoons or knives, away from your juicer’s feed shut. Nobody wants hair juice.
  12. Don’t try to repair the juicer yourself, take it to an authorized service center.

What To Do With The Pulp

The pulp from your juicer is very nutritious and full of fiber and cellulose. If you like to juice a lot, you’ll have a lot of pulp leftover. There are several different uses for this.

  1. Just throw it away. If you don’t have any practical use for your pulp after you finish juicing, then you can just trash it. To help with cleanup, place a plastic freezer or grocery bag into the pulp container of your machine. Then when you’re done juicing, you can just pull out the bag and throw it away. This minimizes clean up and really makes things easier.
  2. Use it in a recipe. I have a whole list of different juicer pulp recipes on this site. They’re all free so check them out. If you plan on using your pulp in a recipe, make sure you use it the same day to avoid the loss of vitamins. This is the same that applies to the juice that you make; drink it as soon as possible after you make it. Pulp is also great for thickening up soups and casseroles.
  3. Compost it. Pulp is fantastic for using in your garden or flower bed, after it has composted.

Helpful Tip #4
There may be some small pieces of vegetable or fruit remaining in the pulp after you juice it. If that’s the case, then simply remove the pieces before you use any of the pulp in a recipe.

Helpful Tip #5
I like to boil pulp with tea. This really adds some nice flavor and additional nutrients to any variety of green or black tea. When you pour it out though, you’ll need to use a strainer so that there are not little pieces of pulp in your tea. Try it with pineapple pulp and see if you like it.

How To Pick The Best Lime Juicer For Your Home Cooking Needs

Limes are tough little buggers to juice. They’re small, and the juice is hard to get out. That’s why you need the best lime juicer to get the job done. If you want to have a well-stocked and fully functional kitchen, it is important that all of the right appliances, tools, and accessories are in place. A good lime juicer is essential for any cook that wants to make delicious lime drinks and dishes.

Given the wealth of options in this common kitchen tool, however, it is important that shoppers take steps to find the best model for their specific juicing needs. The following are several important considerations to make when deciding which lime juicer is right for you.

How Often Do You Plan To Juice Limes?

Limes have a number of specific uses in the kitchen, in spite of their tart, pungent flavor. Most people eschew this small citrus fruit in favor of the more mellow and blendable flavour of its yellow cousin, the lemon. Others enjoy creating Southwestern dishes, tart dessert recipes and other fares that require the tangy juice of this fruit such as guacamole, key lime pie and even specially marinated steaks.

Thus, one of the most important considerations to make when selecting a lime juicer is the type of work that you will be putting it through. If you simply plan on adding fresh lime juice to cold beer or other beverages, a manual hand-held lime juicer will be perfect. If, however, you plan on using this fruit to win the local pie-making contest with your grandmother’s key lime pie recipe, you may need an automatic electric lime juicer. Many electric models can also be used with other types of citrus fruits including oranges, lemons, and grapefruits.

The Best Manual Lime Juicer Models

Manual lime juicers are very inexpensive and they won’t cost you anything in electricity because they run on your own muscle power. Most work very well and are simple to use. The only drawbacks are that they are slow if you want to juice a lot of lemons, and they do require some strength in your hands. To use them simply cut the lime in half and place the half in the juicer. Some manual lemon juicers have a cone and you place the lime half down on the cone and twist to extract the juice. One of my favorite of these types of models is the Progressive International Citrus Juicer.

Progressive International Citrus Juicer

This lime juicer comes with three pieces, a cone where you press the lime half down to extract the juice, a bottom round piece with measurement markings and a pour spout that catches the juice, and a dome lid that also can be used as a measuring cup. All parts are dishwasher safe. If you look close at the picture you can see that the bottom piece has a non-skid ring attached to it so it won’t move around as you press your lime down and twist.

Progressive Citrus Juicer

The size of this unit is perfect for limes, lemons, and oranges, but not larger citrus fruits like grapefruit. It very reasonably priced, under $15. Click here to find the best price for the Progressive International Citrus Juicer.

The other manual lime juicer models work like nutcrackers and look like can openers. These types tend to be more specialized for use with just smaller citrus fruits like lemons and limes. With these models, you place the lime in the cup and squeeze down on the handles to extract the juice. One example of this type of model that I highly recommend is the Chef’n FreshForce Citrus Juicer.

Chef’n FreshForce Citrus Juicer

This low-cost, hand-held juicer is simple to use and features a sleek design. The fresh lime half is simply placed face down in the cradle, and then the hand-held lever is squeezed by the user to express the juice. A concave sieve for removing seeds will also catch larger pieces of pulp, making the unit ideal for those with smaller cooking jobs. It also has a nifty gear device that increases the pressing force of the juicer and is much easier on your hands.

You’ll be able to use Chef’n FreshForce with lemons but not other larger citrus fruits. I found it for under $20 on Amazon.com, which is a really good deal. Click here to get the best price on the Chef’n FreshForce Citrus Juicer.

The Best Electric Lime Juicers

If you plan on making a lot of lime juice or juicing frequently then an electric model will be necessary. There is certainly a vast array to choose from. Most automatic units are designed to express the juice from limes and nearly every other type of citrus fruit as well, making this type of unit the ideal option for people who love juicing several types of citrus fruits at one time. While an electric unit is certain to cost a bit more than a simple hand-held one, the versatility that is supplied is often well worth the extra cost.

If you are concentrating on citrus juice primarily I would recommend staying away from centrifugal juicers. They work great on a wide variety of different fruits and vegetables but a citrus juicer is better able to extract juice more efficiently from oranges, limes, lemons, and grapefruits. Plus citrus juicers tend to be cheaper than a high powered centrifugal juicer.

Tribest Citristar Electric Citrus Juicer

One of the more popular options among electric lime juicers is the Tribest Citristar Electric Citrus Juicer. There are over 125 customer reviews for this model on Amazon.com alone with over 115 people rating it 4 or 5 stars out of 5, which is an astounding 90% of all reviews. In other words, people love it. This model features a wide-open cradle, with the juicing mechanism sitting atop. The citrus fruit is simply placed facedown and the machine does the rest, filtering out all seeds and pulp and pouring fresh, pure juice from the dispenser. You’ll be able to juice all citrus fruits with this machine, from tiny limes to big juicy grapefruits.Tribest CS-1000 CitriStar Citrus Juicer

The Citristar retails for about $70 when I last checked. However, if you buy it on Amazon you’ll save over $25+, which is a really good deal. Click here to get the best price for the Tribest Citristar Electric Citrus Juicer.

Black & Decker CJ525 CitrusMate Plus Citrus Juicer

The Black and Decker 34 oz Citrus Juicer is another unit that is commonly purchased by home cooking experts who love having access to fresh juice. It also has over 270 four and five-star reviews (84% of all reviews) on Amazon.com, making it one of the most popular juicers on the market. You get two cones with the CitrusMate, a large one for grapefruits and a smaller one for lemons and limes. Then just place the fruit half down on the cone and the machine will start spinning. The cone will spin in one direction for a few seconds and then reverse and spin in the other direction so that it will extract as much juice as possible from the fruit.

There’s even an adjustment that lets you control how much pulp you get in your juice. Some people like a lot of pulp, like me, so this is a really cool feature that I mostly only see in more expensive juicers. The 34 ounces (1 liter) juice container is also a good size and it can be put directly into your refrigerator so that you can store and serve your juice later. This machine is heavy-duty enough to quickly prepare significant quantities of freshly squeezed orange juice but is also versatile enough to accommodate the needs of the average lime. Storing Lime Juice

One of the major benefits of owning a good lime juicer is that you can always have fresh lime juice on hand, whether preparing a spicy salsa recipe or searing jumbo shrimp. A lime juicer is perfect for making all of the crisp, sweet summer beverages that both adults and children love, including lime-aid, fresh citrus blends, Margaritas, and Mojitos. If you prefer to squeeze limes in abundance, however, and store the juice in your fridge, there are several important things that you should remember.

A glass container is usually preferable to a plastic one, as this fibrous material can harness germs which will contaminate and ultimately spoil any fresh juice or other items that get stored. If storing your lime juice in a plastic container, it is best to ensure that it is not just visibly clean, but that it contains no trace orders of the food or beverage items that it has previously stored. The best method of sanitizing such a vessel is by letting it run through the dishwasher.

Any fresh juice that gets stored in the refrigerator should either be used or replaced within two to three days. There is certainly no shortage of recipe ideas when fresh fruit juice is on hand. Whether making flavorful ethnic dishes or a delightful summer beverage, a high-quality lime juicer will make both preparation and consumption a joy.
